AIA Columbus Merit Award (2008)
Thirty-five townhouses in five buildings replaced an aging, dilapidated and vacated manufacturing building on this site in a gentrifying historic urban neighborhood. Common garden areas, easy and secure access, the preservation of daylight and views and an updated urban character that relates to its historic context were the project’s goals.
Alternating garden and auto courts were placed perpendicular to the street in order to create outdoor spaces that are private yet open. The line of street façade continues the rhythm of the neighboring houses while the use of brick and metal wall panels establishes a balance between the neighborhood’s history and its future.
